About me

My name is Mark Schloneger.  I pastor Springdale Mennonite Church in Waynesboro, Virginia.  My wife, Sarah, and I live in Waynesboro with our two daughters and son.   We enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, both in its scenery and people.  Some of the things that have impacted who I am today:

  • Growing up in northwest Ohio (Wauseon) with parents who modeled and taught their Christian faith.
  • Attending Goshen College (Goshen, Indiana).  This is where I met Sarah and began to explore what it means to have a personal faith in Jesus.
  • Studying law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law and then working as an attorney in Cincinnati.
  • Serving three years in Mozambique, Africa with Mennonite Central Committee.  We partnered with the United Methodist Church of Mozambique, living and working in a rural educational center named Cambine.  Although I had planned to return to legal work following this assignment, I felt God’s call to pastoral ministry while in Mozambique.  (I’d love to tell you that story sometime – just ask.) Those three years in Mozambique continue to have a profound impact on my faith and identity.
  • Growing as a father and husband.
  • Learning and practicing theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
  • Following Jesus among the fine people of Springdale Mennonite.

As for hobbies, I like almost all sports, particularly basketball and softball.  In March 2009, I finished a marathon in Washington, D.C. with friends.  I enjoy reading and writing.  I lament the perpetual futility of the Cincinnati Bengals.

  1. I loved your article on singing at sporting events. Singing America the Beautiful praised God for the gifts he has bestowed us, honoring our land, not denigrating others. Work to get that the National anthem

Thanks for the stand out article
